Role: Senior Application DBA/Database developer

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual with 8 to 10 years of experience in database administration, development, or related roles to join our team as a senior PostgreSQL DBA and senior database developer. This individual must have extensive experience working with the PostgreSQL database management system, including installation, configuration, optimization, and troubleshooting. Proficiency in database scripting languages such as SQL, and PL/pgSQL for developing complex database solutions and automation tasks. Experience in data conversion and migration projects, including schema migration and data transfer between different database systems. Proficiency in data modeling tools such as ERwin, Toad Data Modeler, or PostgreSQL-specific tools like pgModeler.

Technical Skills:

• PostgreSQL Administration:
• Advanced knowledge and experience with PostgreSQL database administration.
• Installation, configuration, and maintenance of PostgreSQL database instances.
• Performance tuning, optimization, and troubleshooting of PostgreSQL databases.

Responsibilities:

• Database Administration (PostgreSQL):
• Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of PostgreSQL database systems.
• Monitor database performance, conduct performance tuning, and optimize SQL queries for efficiency.
• Implement and maintain database security measures, including user access controls, data encryption, and backup and recovery strategies.
• Troubleshoot database issues, diagnose and resolve database-related problems, and ensure system reliability and uptime.
• Plan and execute database upgrades, patches, and migrations, ensuring minimal downtime and data integrity.
• Implement database replication, clustering, and high availability solutions for disaster recovery and failover.
• Database Development:
• Develop and maintain database scripts, stored procedures, functions, triggers, and other database objects to support application development and data processing requirements.
• Design and implement data models, database schemas, and indexing strategies to optimize database performance and support application functionality.
• Perform data conversion and migration tasks, including data cleansing, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes, ensuring data integrity and consistency.
• Collaborate with software developers, architects, and business stakeholders to understand database requirements and provide database solutions that meet business needs.
• Conduct code reviews, performance analysis, and database optimization to ensure adherence to best practices and standards.
• Document database designs, processes, and procedures, and provide training and knowledge transfer to junior team members.
• SQL Query Optimization:
• Write and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and database views to retrieve and manipulate data efficiently.
• Analyze query execution plans, identify performance bottlenecks, and implement optimizations to improve query performance.
• Utilize database performance monitoring tools and profiling techniques to identify and resolve performance issues.
• Database Design and Modeling:
• Design and implement logical and physical database models using industry-standard tools and methodologies.
• Normalize database schemas and define relationships between tables to ensure data integrity and minimize redundancy.
• Conduct data modeling sessions with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate business needs into database designs.
• Evaluate and recommend database technologies, tools, and methodologies to support current and future application requirements.
• Documentation and Communication:
• Create and maintain technical documentation, including database schema diagrams, data dictionaries, and system architecture diagrams.
• Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams, including developers, testers, project managers, and business stakeholders, to ensure alignment on database requirements and deliverables.

Qualification:

• Bachelors degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.
• 8 to 10 years of experience in database administration, development, or related roles.
• PostgreSQL-related certifications, such as Certified PostgreSQL Associate or Certified PostgreSQL Professional, preferred.
• Familiarity with cloud database services such as Amazon RDS, Google Cloud SQL, or Azure Database for PostgreSQL.
