The Procurement Engineer – Mechanical is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing mechanical equipment, materials, and services for industrial and construction projects. The role involves coordinating with engineering and project teams to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement aligned with technical specifications and project timelines.
Key Responsibilities:
Procurement Operations:
- Identify, evaluate, and qualify suppliers of mechanical systems and components (e.g., pumps, valves, piping, HVAC, pressure vessels, rotating equipment).
- Request, analyze, and negotiate vendor quotations to ensure best value in terms of cost, quality, and delivery.
- Issue purchase orders and follow up on order confirmation, dispatch, and delivery schedules.
Technical Coordination:
- Review technical specifications, datasheets, and drawings to ensure supplier offerings meet project and client requirements.
- Liaise with engineering and QA/QC teams to validate material submittals and resolve technical queries.
Vendor & Contract Management:
- Maintain strong relationships with local and international suppliers.
- Evaluate vendor performance in terms of quality, reliability, and delivery timelines.
- Support contract negotiations and manage procurement agreements.
Project & Cost Management:
- Align procurement strategy with project schedules and budget constraints.
- Monitor and report procurement progress, material costs, and delivery risks.
- Support cost-saving initiatives and value engineering.
Documentation & Compliance:
- Maintain procurement records including RFQs, POs, submittals, and inspection reports.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, international standards (ASME, API, ISO), and local regulations.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 0-2 years of experience in mechanical procurement, preferably in EPC, oil & gas, power, or heavy industry sectors.
- Knowledge of mechanical equipment, industrial standards, and vendor ecosystems.
- Proficient in ERP/procurement software (SAP, Oracle, etc.).
- Strong negotiation and communication skills.
- Ability to read technical drawings and specifications.
- Understanding of Incoterms, logistics, and import/export documentation.
