Key Responsibilities
- Blood Collection & Sample Handling
- Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture techniques to collect blood samples.
- Ensure proper labeling, storage, and transportation of samples to the laboratory.
- Follow infection control and safety procedures to prevent contamination.
- Patient Care & Interaction
- Explain procedures to patients and address any concerns.
- Ensure patient comfort and minimize discomfort during blood collection.
- Monitor patients for any adverse reactions and provide immediate assistance if needed.
- Record Keeping & Compliance
- Maintain accurate patient records and update laboratory systems.
- Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and standards (NABL, CAP, CLIA).
- Properly dispose of used needles, syringes, and biohazardous waste.
- Equipment Maintenance & Quality Control
- Sterilize and maintain phlebotomy equipment and work areas.
- Check supplies and restock materials as needed.
- Follow quality control procedures to ensure reliable sample collection.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Diploma or certification in Phlebotomy, Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT/BMLT), or a related field.
- Technical Skills: Expertise in venipuncture, sample handling, and lab safety protocols.
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate effectively and reassure patients.
- Attention to Detail: Accuracy in labeling, recording, and processing samples.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with infection control and biohazard waste disposal procedures.
