Key Responsibilities

1. Blood Collection & Sample Handling

• Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture techniques to collect blood samples.
• Ensure proper labeling, storage, and transportation of samples to the laboratory.
• Follow infection control and safety procedures to prevent contamination.

1. Patient Care & Interaction

• Explain procedures to patients and address any concerns.
• Ensure patient comfort and minimize discomfort during blood collection.
• Monitor patients for any adverse reactions and provide immediate assistance if needed.

1. Record Keeping & Compliance

• Maintain accurate patient records and update laboratory systems.
• Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and standards (NABL, CAP, CLIA).
• Properly dispose of used needles, syringes, and biohazardous waste.

1. Equipment Maintenance & Quality Control

• Sterilize and maintain phlebotomy equipment and work areas.
• Check supplies and restock materials as needed.
• Follow quality control procedures to ensure reliable sample collection.

Qualifications & Skills

• Education: Diploma or certification in Phlebotomy, Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT/BMLT), or a related field.
• Technical Skills: Expertise in venipuncture, sample handling, and lab safety protocols.
• Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate effectively and reassure patients.
• Attention to Detail: Accuracy in labeling, recording, and processing samples.
• Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with infection control and biohazard waste disposal procedures.

Work Environment

• Hospitals, diagnostic centers, pathology labs, blood banks, and home sample collection services.
