A Lab Technician cum Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting and handling patient samples, performing laboratory tests, and ensuring accurate reporting of results. This dual-role position requires expertise in venipuncture (blood collection) and lab procedures, supporting diagnostic and medical testing in healthcare settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Phlebotomy & Sample Collection
- Collect blood samples from patients using proper venipuncture techniques.
- Ensure patient comfort and follow infection control procedures.
- Label, store, and transport samples securely to the lab.
- Laboratory Testing & Analysis
- Perform basic laboratory tests on blood, urine, and other samples.
- Operate and maintain lab equipment, such as centrifuges and analyzers.
- Ensure accuracy in test results and report findings to medical professionals.
- Data Recording & Reporting
- Maintain patient records and enter test results in laboratory systems.
- Assist in preparing diagnostic reports for doctors and healthcare providers.
- Equipment Maintenance & Safety Compliance
- Clean and calibrate laboratory instruments regularly.
- Follow safety protocols for handling biological samples and hazardous materials.
- Patient Interaction & Support
- Explain procedures to patients and address their concerns.
- Ensure a high level of patient care and professionalism.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT/BMLT) or Phlebotomy certification.
- Technical Skills: Knowledge of venipuncture techniques, sample handling, and lab procedures.
- Attention to Detail: Accuracy in labeling, testing, and recording results.
- Patient Care: Good interpersonal skills for interacting with patients.
- Regulatory Compliance: Understanding of safety and hygiene protocols in laboratories.
