:

A Helicopter Acquisition Specialist is responsible for overseeing the entire process of acquiring helicopters, including evaluating operational needs, selecting the appropriate aircraft, and negotiating purchase or lease agreements. This role requires an in-depth understanding of helicopter technology, regulatory standards, procurement procedures, and industry trends.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Needs Assessment: Collaborate with internal stakeholders (e.g., operations, flight departments, or senior management) to assess the specific needs for helicopters, considering factors like mission type, capacity, range, and budget.
  • Market Research: Conduct research on available helicopter models, technology innovations, and emerging trends in the aviation industry. Stay informed about the latest manufacturers and product offerings.
  • Vendor Relationships: Establish and maintain relationships with helicopter manufacturers, suppliers, and lessors. Work with vendors to understand product specifications, pricing, and availability.
  • Evaluation and Selection: Review and evaluate various helicopters based on performance, cost, safety, and compatibility with the organization’s requirements. Provide recommendations to senior management for approval.
  • Procurement Process: Lead the procurement process, including obtaining quotes, negotiating prices, and managing the purchase or leasing agreements. Ensure compliance with applicable legal, financial, and regulatory requirements.
  • Contract Negotiation: Negotiate contracts, ensuring the best value for the organization while aligning with operational needs. This includes warranty terms, delivery timelines, and after-sales support.
  • Budget Management: Work closely with finance and senior management to establish and manage the budget for helicopter purchases. Ensure that all acquisitions are completed within the allocated budget.
  • Compliance and Regulations: Ensure that all helicopters purchased or leased meet regulatory and safety standards set by aviation authorities, such as the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) or EASA (European Union Aviation Safety Agency).
  • Logistics and Delivery Coordination: Coordinate the logistics of helicopter delivery, including transport, installation of necessary equipment, and integration into the organization’s fleet.
  • Training and Support: Facilitate the provision of training for pilots and maintenance personnel on new aircraft. Ensure that maintenance support and spare parts are available for the fleet.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of all acquisition activities, including contracts, communications, and financial reports. Provide regular status updates to senior leadership regarding progress and challenges.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong Negotiation Skills: Ability to negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms with vendors and manufacturers.
  • Technical Knowledge of Helicopters: In-depth understanding of helicopter types, capabilities, specifications, and technological features.
  • Project Management: Ability to manage multiple acquisitions simultaneously, ensuring deadlines and budget constraints are met.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to assess various helicopter models and vendors critically, considering factors like cost, performance, and suitability for specific missions.
  • Attention to Detail: Ensure that all legal, financial, and technical details are thoroughly checked and documented.
  • Excellent Communication: Ability to effectively communicate with senior management, vendors, and internal departments.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with aviation laws and regulations (e.g., FAA, EASA) and ensuring compliance during acquisitions.
  • Financial Acumen: Ability to assess total cost of ownership, financing options, and manage acquisition budgets.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify and address potential issues that may arise during the procurement process.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in aviation management, business, engineering, or a related field (preferred).
  • Previous experience in aviation procurement, helicopter operations, or aerospace engineering.
  • Familiarity with aviation contracts and regulations.
  • Strong understanding of helicopter maintenance and operations (helpful but not always required).

Working Conditions:

  • Hours: Regular business hours, but flexibility may be required for travel, meetings with vendors, or urgent procurement needs.
  • Work Environment: Primarily office-based with potential travel to helicopter manufacturers, trade shows, or client locations.
  • Travel: Some travel may be required for site visits, vendor meetings, or delivery coordination.
