An ECG Technician is responsible for performing electrocardiograms (ECGs/EKGs) to assess the hearts electrical activity. The technician prepares patients, operates ECG equipment, records results accurately, and assists healthcare providers in diagnosing and treating heart conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
Electrocardiogram (ECG) Testing:
- Perform routine ECG tests on patients to assess heart activity.
- Attach electrodes correctly and ensure proper machine settings.
- Monitor patients during tests and recognize abnormal heart rhythms.
- Explain procedures to patients and ensure their comfort.
Patient Care & Assistance:
- Prepare and position patients for ECG tests as per medical protocols.
- Address patient concerns and answer basic questions regarding the procedure.
- Monitor patient condition during the test and report any concerns to the physician.
Equipment Handling & Maintenance:
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain ECG machines and related diagnostic equipment.
- Ensure proper sanitation and storage of ECG equipment after each use.
- Troubleshoot minor equipment issues and report technical problems.
Data Recording & Reporting:
- Accurately record ECG results and patient information in the system.
- Ensure timely and accurate transmission of ECG reports to physicians.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to medical data protection policies.
Compliance & Safety:
- Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and medical guidelines.
- Ensure compliance with hospital, clinic, or diagnostic center policies.
- Adhere to hygiene, infection control, and patient safety protocols.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Education: Diploma or certification in ECG Technology, Cardiovascular Technology, or a related field.
- Experience: 1-3 years of experience in ECG testing (fresh graduates with certification may be considered).
- Technical Skills: Familiarity with ECG machines, lead placement, and result interpretation.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to identify abnormal readings and report to medical staff.
- Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal skills to interact with patients and medical teams.
- Multitasking: Ability to manage multiple patients and tests efficiently.
- Basic Medical Knowledge: Understanding of heart conditions and ECG abnormalities is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
- Experience in a hospital, clinic, or diagnostic laboratory setting.
- Knowledge of Holter monitoring and stress ECG testing.
