The Medical Transcription Editor (QC) is responsible for reviewing and editing transcribed medical reports to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with industry standards. This role plays a crucial part in maintaining high-quality documentation that supports patient care and meets legal and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Quality Review:
- Conduct thorough reviews of transcribed medical reports to identify and correct errors in grammar, punctuation, spelling, and medical terminology.
- Ensure that transcriptions accurately reflect the dictated content and adhere to client-specific formatting and style guidelines.
- Compliance and Standards Adherence:
- Verify that transcribed documents comply with HIPAA regulations and other relevant healthcare documentation standards.
- Apply the AHDI Book of Style and other industry-standard references during the editing process.
- Feedback and Training:
- Provide constructive feedback to medical transcriptionists and editors to promote continuous improvement.
- Assist in training new team members on quality standards and best practices.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of quality review activities and outcomes.
- Generate reports on quality metrics and trends to inform process improvements.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with other members of the transcription and quality assurance teams to address issues and enhance overall quality.
- Participate in regular meetings to discuss quality concerns and solutions.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Associate or Bachelors degree in a related field; certification in medical transcription is preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a medical transcriptionist, with at least 2 years in an editing or quality control role.
- Experience with various medical specialties such as cardiology, dermatology, and radiology is advantageous.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Strong command of English grammar, punctuation, and style.
- Attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies in medical documentation.
- Familiarity with transcription software and electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Certifications:
- Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT) or Registered Healthcare Documentation Specialist (RHDS) certification is preferred.
